The SILC initiative by the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology aims to establish consensus criteria for training standards and maintenance of certification in Neurointervention. This initiative addresses the gap in the availability of trained Neurointerventionalists across the world and sets forth a framework for consistent and high-quality training.
The SILC Team is an assembly of preeminent medical professionals and neurointerventionalists from various prestigious institutions worldwide. This team is tasked with a critical mission: to develop and maintain rigorous training standards and certification processes for the field of Neurointervention. Each team member brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the table, ensuring that the SILC initiative is both comprehensive and at the cutting edge of medical education. Together, they address the pressing global shortage of trained neurointerventionalists by creating a standardized, high-quality curriculum designed to equip the next generation of specialists with the skills necessary to advance patient care in this vital medical subspecialty.
The centerpiece product of the SILC initiative is a meticulously crafted, standardized training program for neurointerventionists, designed to elevate the quality and accessibility of stroke care worldwide. This program sets forth a robust curriculum that encompasses a deep understanding of vascular neuroanatomy, technical proficiency in catheter-based interventions, and mastery of multimodal neuroimaging interpretation. It also emphasizes critical decision-making and the management of complications that can arise during neurointerventional procedures. The initiative’s goal is to ensure a consistent and high level of expertise among practitioners, thereby addressing the current global disparity in the availability of skilled neurointerventional care. By doing so, the SILC initiative aims to improve patient outcomes and expand access to life-saving treatments for those suffering from cerebrovascular and spinal conditions.
